A dietitian is a legally protected title. All dietitians have a university degree, are required to be registered with the HPCSA, and are healthcare professionals trained to treat medical conditions using nutrition as a therapy. “Nutritionist” is not a protected title, and a nutritionist may provide general healthy eating advice, but not nutrition specific to disease/ health conditions. Choosing a dietitian ensures you receive safe, evidence‑based advice.
